IACT Annual Awards Luncheon presented by Umbaugh & Keynote Address sponsored by Bingham Greenebaum Doll LLP

Wednesday, 11:30 a.m. - 1:45 p.m.

Drew Klacik

The IU Public Policy Institute recently unveiled extensive data on Indiana’s population trends and what they mean for Indiana’s cities, towns and counties. IU’s Senior Policy Analyst Drew Klacik will offer keynote remarks highlighting some key facts and figures and explaining how he believes Indiana’s most exemplary cities and towns are rendering themselves immune to the decline that others are seeing.

Since joining the Center for Urban Policy and the Environment, now a part of the IU Public Policy Institute, as a policy analyst in October 1992, Drew Klacik's principal areas of work have included economic development, state and local taxation, and affordable housing and neighborhood development policy. Much of his work is focused on Indiana and trying to understand how these issues interact and affect the quality of life and economic vitality of metropolitan areas.

Prior to joining the Institute, Klacik was a principal planner for the city of Indianapolis Division of Economic Development. His work projects included the development of Circle Centre Mall, the attraction of the United Airlines maintenance facility to Indianapolis, the designation of the Indianapolis Enterprise Zone, the Eli Lilly Corporate Center and Harding Street expansions, and retention of the Fort Harrison Finance Center.

Klacik earned his bachelor's from Purdue University and holds a master of urban and regional planning from Ball State University.

Closing Lunch & Business Session sponsored by Barnes & Thornburg LLP & Indiana American Water

Thursday, 11:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

Lt. Governor Eric Holcomb

Eric Holcomb was sworn in as the 51st Lieutenant Governor of Indiana on March 3, 2016. A life-long Hoosier, he is a United States Navy veteran, was a trusted advisor to both Governor Mitch Daniels and Senator Dan Coats and a former state chairman of the Indiana Republican Party.

Throughout his career in public and political service, Holcomb has earned a reputation of being a consensus builder. He has traveled extensively around the state to build support for various initiatives including, but not limited to, Indiana’s property tax caps and Major Moves.

As Lt. Governor, Holcomb oversees a varied and diversified portfolio that includes the Indiana State Department of Agriculture, the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority, the Office of Defense Development, the Office of Community and Rural Affairs, the Office of Tourism Development and the Office of Small Business and Entrepreneurship. He also serves as chairman of the Indiana Counter Terrorism and Security Council and President of the Indiana Senate, where he presides over the chamber during each year’s legislative session.

Holcomb served as State Chief of Staff to U.S. Senator Dan Coats. In this, Holcomb was the Senator’s main point of contact for constituents as well as legislators and local elected officials and he served as a surrogate for the senator at events across the state.

Holcomb was a key member of Governor Mitch Daniels’ administration, holding various positions from the campaign kick-off in 2003 until the governor left office in 2011. These included deputy chief of staff, managing Governor Daniels’ 2008 re-election, and overseeing the governor’s state political action committee, Aiming Higher.

Holcomb is a graduate of Hanover College where he majored in U.S. History. He and his wife, Janet, live with their dog, Henry, on the northwest side of Indianapolis.

John Gregg

An experienced and well respected public servant, John Gregg has spent more than 30 years in private business and public life working to bring people together to get things done.

After working for two Fortune 500 companies in the energy field, Gregg was elected in 1986 to represent Southwest Indiana in the Statehouse. He served in the Indiana House of Representatives for 10 years before being elected Speaker of the House in 1996. In his six years as Speaker, Gregg worked with both political parties to cut taxes, balance budgets, expand Indiana’s economy and better support public schools, all while overseeing record surpluses.

In 2002 Gregg decided to spend more time with his two growing boys and retired from public office. The following year, Governor Frank O’Bannon asked him to serve as interim President of Vincennes University, where he worked to expand the curriculum, increase access and to keep tuition costs down.

Following his tenure at Vincennes, Gregg returned to his law practice, wrote a book and hosted a popular weekend radio talk show.  In 2012 Gregg re-entered the political arena and was the Democratic Party’s nominee for Indiana Governor, coming up just short of victory in the closest race for that office in 50 years.  In May 2015, John announced his plans to seek the governorship again.

Gregg is a lifelong resident of Sandborn, Indiana, in rural Knox County. He earned undergraduate degrees from Vincennes University and Indiana University and, while working full time, earned a master’s degree from Indiana State and a law degree from Indiana University.

Gregg proudly lives in Sandborn along with his wife, Lisa, where he tends to the family farm and continues to practice law.  The couple have three adult children.
