Municipal Management Institute
Sponsored by Hannum, Wagle & Cline Engineering
The IACT Municipal Management Institute (MMI) was created to provide innovative, quality education programs to municipal officials across Indiana. Institute participants are given the opportunity to sharpen their management and leadership skills, learn new techniques for tackling common local issues and improving services for citizens, all while working toward certification as an "IACT Certified Municipal Official." As officials complete each MMI level they are recognized by the Association, and, more importantly, will benefit their community with the knowledge and experience that they gain.

Municipal Liability and Risk Management: Suing the city, America's newest national pastime?
Tuesday, September 21
Baseball is still a lot more fun, but city and town officials today can attest that being sued often seems to be the game at hand. This workshop will cover the rules that the municipal team needs to follow to be effective on the field. Municipal exposures, insurance and the transfer of risk, and immunities under the Indiana Tort Claims Act will be discussed. Just as scorekeeping is important in baseball, proper documentation and having sound written policies and procedures are crucial to be a winning team. Speakers will also coach attendees on special problem areas for municipalities, including employee practices, automobile liability, and premises liability.
