As cities and towns face tough decisions, IACT strives to educate and assist officials and their staff in making their local missions a success. More than 20 workshops will address the issues most important to you, including current hot topics and municipal trends. Although the series of educational workshops are designed for elected and appointed officials from cities and towns of all sizes, IACT will hold a "Small Community Track" to address issues more prevalent in smaller towns. IACT members can also receive credit toward their Municipal Management Institute Certification.
2010 Plan of Action: IACT Policy Resolutions and Legislative Initiatives An important part of the conference is developing policies and intiatives that will guide the Association on critical issues in the year ahead. "Policy Resolutions" set the Association's position on various municipal issues. "Legislative Initiatives" are identified priority issues of the Association and will be discussed at workshops and business sessions. Attendees will learn the importance of each initiative and how to advocate on behalf of municipal government in the upcoming legislative session.
Municipal Day - Monday, October 5 For those who are unable to attend the full conference, Municipal Day offers a one-day registration at a reduced rate. It includes 12 workshops, the Opening Business Session, the Annual Awards Luncheon and access to the Exhibition Hall. Municipal Day also includes the Small Community workshop track.
Small Community Focus Municipal officials from communities with a population of less than 1,000 may attend the entire conference for the reduced rate of $210. A "Small Community Track" of workshops has been developed specifically for smaller towns whose needs may differ from larger communities. Hot topics such as code enforcement and recent state legislation will be featured.
Annual Awards Luncheon The Annual Awards Luncheon, presented by Umbaugh, honors communities and individuals who have made outstanding achievements in municipal government. The Annual Awards Luncheon remains a conference highlight, where all award recipients are recognized and Community Achievement Award winners are honored with a video presentation. Graduates of the IACT Municipal Management Institute will also be recognized.
Exhibition Hall More than 145 vendors offer a great opportunity for you to browse products, equipment and services available to municipal government. Events in the Exhibition Hall will kick off with a Dessert Reception on Monday afternoon, breakfast and lunch on Tuesday, and come to a close with grand prize drawings and give-a-ways. One major door prize, a laptop computer donated by Jones & Henry Engineers, will be awarded on Tuesday, October 6; you must attend to win.
