Indiana Municipal Lawyers Association

The Indiana Municipal Lawyers Association (IMLA) was formed in 1983 to collect and disseminate information on matters of concern to attorneys practicing in the field of municipal law, promote the continuing education of attorneys on issues affecting municipal law, and provide forums for attorneys practicing municipal law to meet and exchange ideas and professional experience.

Hartburg Earns Longevity of Service Award at Annual Municipal Law Conference

INDIANAPOLIS – During their 40th annual Municipal Law Seminar, the Indiana Municipal Lawyers Association (IMLA) recognized attorneys with at least 25 of service to at least one Hoosier municipality. One attorney, Michael Hartburg of Huntington, was honored during the luncheon presentation at the conference, held June 22-23 in Noblesville.

Hartburg, a native of Pennsylvania, received his bachelor’s degree in history and political science from the University of Pittsburg and his law school education from the Indiana University School of Law in Indianapolis. Immediately upon passing the bar, Mike began practicing law at the Huntington firm of Gordon Bendall Branham McNealy & DeLaney, currently known as Hartburg Roth Garrott Halverstadt Garrett, LLP.

For most of his career, Mike has centered his practice around local government. He proudly represents the city of Huntington, all other incorporated areas of Huntington County, and some in neighboring counties as well.

IMLA Executive Director Becca McCuaig said honoring long-time municipal lawyers is an important feature of the conference. “It is fitting to recognize the commitment of someone who has dedicated so many years to public service. Long hours, evenings, and weekends in the office, in addition to 24-hour on call service, are par for the course in these positions. I am thrilled the members of IMLA take time each year to recognize their peers for this achievement.” said McCuaig.

Beth McFadin Higgins, IMLA president and partner with McFadin Higgins & Folz, LLP noted, “Mike is respected and relied upon among his peers. There are many paths an attorney can take upon passing the bar. Mike chose to focus his talents on public service clients, and both his clients and his fellow IMLA members are better for it.”
