Newly Elected Officials Training

Held Every 4 Years Following Municipal Elections

Learning the Tools of Success City and town elected officials truly serve on the front lines of our American democracy. It can be a challenging responsibility, particularly for those recently elected. Yet with the proper preparation and training, municipal officials can assume responsibilities of office, smoothly and effectively.

Every four years, IACT conducts Newly Elected Officials Training to provide basic information and tools for city and town officials, helping them manage their first weeks in office and build a foundation for a successful term. IACT’s 2011-2012 Newly Elected Officials Training assisted city and town officials. The 2015-2016 program, promises to be bigger and better, and will benefit both municipal government rookies and veterans alike.

There are three phases to the training program. Beginning with a day-long workshop that will be offered in five locations across the state, Regional Training will focus on the first weeks in office, including what to expect a the first council meeting. Regional Training will be followed by Mayors School, an in-depth conference offered specifically for mayors. The Clerk Treasurers Workshop will be offered in conjunction with the IACT Boot Camp, which provides basic training for municipal officials. The final component of the program is the Indiana Elected Municipal Officials Handbook, recognized as an authoritative guide to practical city and town government procedures.
